2026 marks 30 years since the Swedish brand PINEWOOD was founded. To celebrate, the company has created a limited edition version of the Canada Classic shirt, the shirt which launched the business.
Following unusual teen years in Taiwan, Rüssel eventually started to study Mandarin at university in Beijing where some of his friends came from textile manufacturing families.
Which is how he was able to bring a couple of containers of lined flannel shirts to Sweden in due course. In autumn 1994, a happy Rainer Rüssel pulled his rusty old car into a service station; he had just sold 50% of the Canada shirts he’d imported.
Two years later, what started life as a business idea between two college friends in Beijing became Pinewood the brand and the company.
30 years on Pinewood is well established throughout Europe and beyond, the Canada Classic shirt is still in the collection and more than 100,000 have been sold to date.
This limited edition Canda Classic shirt will be available in a classic terracotta/brown colour and available through selected retailers sitting alongside the OG version in traditional red and black.

The last 30 years have seen a number of transformations and changes to the company but the idea behind the brand remains the same: clothing created for life outdoors and made to last. As founder Rüssel put it, “The new colour choice is our way of celebrating something which works and needs no change.”
Now a well-established brand in the outdoor and country pursuit sectors, Pinewood remains true to its core philosophy of #EmbraceTheWild – making nature accessible for all through creating affordable, functional clothing which lasts.
