Maier Sports Focuses On Entry Level Ski Touring Clothing As Demand Increases

Headquartered at the foot of the Swabian Alps for more than 75 years, MAIER SPORTS has launched its new winter range, including a number of ski touring related garments. Ideal for first time ski tourers, the jackets, trousers and mid layers, alongside winter walking trousers, are also suitable for any mountain weather.

With a recent survey conducted by the Ski Club of Great Britain suggesting around 30% of skiers would like to try ski touring (18% of respondents participated last winter), it’s clear that the activity is the fastest growing area of the sport and set to continue rising as skiers search for adventure and a way to increase exercise.

Linda Torstensson of Maier Sports UK, said, “For anyone thinking about getting into ski touring for the first time, the Maier Sports clothing is ideal because it’s fantastic quality at a good price point – hence why it’s marketed as entry level kit. The fit of the jacket and trousers is even more important when it comes to ski touring too, and with Maier Sports’ huge range of sizes, it means skiers can find their PERFECT FIT.”

Touring clothing for this winter includes:

Narvik Jacket
The dual-layer Narvik is the ideal entry-level jacket for ski touring. It’s highly breathable, as well as being water and windproof, thanks to its mTEX 20.000 membrane. Its Silverplus® mesh lining will keep ski tourers feeling fresh, even during intensive activities in the snow. Long zips on the sleeves and body provide ventilation.

To stop snow getting in, the Jacket has an adjustable hem, adjustable cuffs and sleeves that extend over the backs of the hands. The hood of the touring jacket is well-designed and individually adjustable whilst the chin guard on the collar provides additional comfort. Men’s and women’s version available.

Narvik Trousers – men’s
The dual-layer Narvik Ski Touring trousers for men have been specifically designed for an introduction to the world of ski touring. These comfortable outdoor pants have elasticated 2-way stretch fabric, preformed knees and an adjustable waistband that optimally adapts to the body. The touring pants are also highly breathable, as well as wind and weatherproof, thanks to the mTEX 20.000 membrane.

Made from 58% recycled PES fibres, the finish is completely PFC-free and the production method uses less water and adhesives. Technical details make them perfect for touring. The snow guards with non-slip rubber on the ankles prevent snow from getting in while an integrated zip provides external leg ventilation. The four spacious pockets with zips for keys, wallets, etc. are also useful when out and about.

Liland Trousers – women’s
The Liland Ski Touring trousers are designed for challenging winter activities. Thanks to the highly breathable and waterproof mTEX 20.000 membrane of these triple-layer touring trousers, skiers will be well prepared for snow and sudden weather conditions of any kind.

Be it steep ascents in deep snow or descents using touring skis, the sporty-cut provides a ‘perfect fit’ thanks to the innovative shaped waistband with wide, elasticated insert and warming fleece-lined material. They’re made from 65% recycled PES fibres and have a PFC-free finish.

Skutvik Jacket
Designed for both long and short ski tours, the Skutvik is an easy-care mid layer jacket that can also be worn as a base layer. It boasts a sporty cut and is extremely comfortable, thanks to its stretchy material.

It’s also 40% wool, increasing its warmth but staying highly breathable and hard wearing. The collar has an integrated chin guard for additional comfort. The small pocket with a concealed zip closure integrated on the chest is a practical extra. It weighs 270 grams.
