British Outdoor Brands Berghaus And Rab Score Top Award Wins For Performance Products

Berghaus MTN Guide Hyper Alpha j

BERGHAUS is celebrating after two products in its Extrem range secured major industry awards. As well as an ISPO Award the brand has also won a Polartec Apex Award for the first time. Both were earned for products in the all-new Extrem collection, launched this autumn after an extensive design, development and testing programme.

The Berghaus MTN Guide Hyper Alpha jacket has secured an ISPO Award in the clothing category. In the Hyper Alpha, Berghaus has brought together two high performance fabrics ‘to create an ultra-lightweight waterproof and insulated shell for long, hard days in the mountains.’

Combining its own extremely breathable HYDROSHELL ELITE™ with Polartec® Alpha®, the brand has added in features and fit to engineer a versatile shell that weighs only 226g (women’s size 12) / 268g (men’s size medium). Compatible with harness and pack, the Hyper Alpha offers optimum comfort across a wide range of conditions and activities, allowing the wearer to keep going without having to pause to remove or add layers. When it’s not needed, it packs down into a tiny space until needed again.

Berghaus MTN MW Hoody neck gaiter and mask

Launched over 20 years ago, the Polartec® Apex Awards celebrate the brands that push the boundaries of style and innovation. The new MTN Guide MW Hoody has secured an award for Berghaus’ cutting edge use of two high performance Polartec® fabrics, delivering a mid layer ‘that offers everything required for high output activities in cold conditions.’

The jacket’s Polartec® Power Grid™ is fast wicking, quick drying and lightweight, body-mapped for the right balance of insulation throughout. The integrated Polartec® Power Wool™ neck gaiter and mask provides exceptional comfort and performance when required. Features and fit have been carefully engineered so that this midlayer can be worn in comfort throughout extended mountain adventures. At only 340g (women’s size 12) / 400g (men’s size medium), the Berghaus MTN Guide MW Hoody won’t slow anyone down.

Charlie Pym, Berghaus brand director, said, “The ISPO Award and Polartec Apex Award represent a great vindication of the exceptional work that many colleagues in our team have done to develop and launch the new Extrem range. It’s been a long and challenging process and throughout it, we have been very aware of the rich heritage that Berghaus already has in creating innovative and effective products for the mountains. I’m delighted for our very talented Berghaus crew, who thoroughly deserve both accolades.”

Next level warmth for minimum weight, the Rab Mythic G 1000FP down jacket features a visible heat reflective TILT lining.

British outdoor brand RAB has also received an ISPO Award for its new Mythic G Jacket, ‘designed for ambitious mountain activities in the most extreme environments’, available to consumers in Autumn/Winter 2023. The Mythic G Jacket is part of Rab’s successful Mythic Collection and the ISPO Award particularly celebrates its outstanding warmth-to-weight ratio.

Over four decades, Rab has honed its reputation as ‘Masters of Insulation’. The range is always evolving and with the new Mythic G Jacket, available in a women’s and a men’s version, limits have been pushed again.

Building on extensive R&D Rab did for the award-winning Mythic family, the Mythic G Jacket combines ultralight 1000FP down and 7D fabric with ground-breaking TILT (Thermo Ionic Lining Technology) and a highly streamlined cut. Whilst the Mythic G is 13% lighter compared to its predecessor, it is filled with 10% more down, ensuring the jacket’s industry-leading warmth-to-weight ratio without compromising on performance and protection.

As the ISPO Award jury states: “Rab certainly knows how to master insulation to a T. Extremely warm, extremely light and at the same time super durable and packable: This jacket is for alpinists that count every gram and want all the warmth they can get without a weight penalty. The Mythic G is still smartly designed and packed with all the features you wouldn’t want to miss. An extra bonus for female alpinists is definitely the women’s specific fit.”
