Alpkit’s 2025 Sustainability Report: An Optimist’s Manifesto

ALPKIT has unveiled its 2025 SUSTAINABILITY REPORT with a characteristic spark of optimism that defines the brand, we share this year’s highlights while leaning into the messy middle that still awaits transformation.

“This year has been full of pinch-me moments: carbon slashed, PFAS stripped out the supply chair, old gear given new life. It’s taken a full-team effort,” said David Hanney, CEO of Alpkit.

“In publishing our Sustainability Report, we want to share what we do at Alpkit – but also what we can do as an industry. There’s a messy middle – doing what we are doing is good, but we know it’s not enough.”

Highlights worth noting:

• B-Corp re-certified: Alpkit has been re-certified as a B Corp with a knock-out assessment score, increasing from 95.1 to 122.6; firmly in the leading pack of sustainable brands.

• Carbon milestone: Alpkit cut direct emissions by 46% and officially became carbon neutral eight years ahead of target.

• PFAS-free progress: removed PFAS from all Alpkit-designed clothing, steadily untangling a complex supply chain.

• Community at  the core: Through the Continuum Project, Alpkit re-homed over 20 tonnes of gear and the Alpkit Foundation funded 3,000 grassroots outdoor projects across the UK.

• British manufacturing: From Sonder bikes and wheels to Trakke bags and bouldering mats, 30% of the gear is now made in the UK. Alpkit’s acquisition of Trakke earlier in the year demonstrates a commitment to continuing UK-made manufacturing.

• Accountability & transparency: Alpkit continues to structure reporting through the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards and publishes a full GRI Content Index.

Goals

• Target 15,000 repairs and scale up the amount of gear rehomed via the Continuum Project to seven tons.

Increase recycled content to over 90%, including increasing the number of camping and equipment products with recycled content to over 50%

• Increase the traceability of difficult-to-recycle materials like neoprene wetsuits and down, introducing recycling streams for down and neoprene with clear volume tracking.

• Reduce carbon footprint (measured by carbon intensity per order) by over 15%, including reducing air freight to below 10% by weight

• Through the Alpkit Foundation, support grassroots direct action projects that support health & wellbeing, education, environment, diversity and participation in the outdoors .

“Sustainability isn’t a finish line—it’s our way of travelling,” added Hanney. “We’ll keep going – designing kit, untangling messy problems, and serving customers – with our belief that together we can leave the outdoors better than we found it.”
