3M Updates Its Flowable High-Loft Featherless Insulation

3M has updated its 3M™ Thinsulate™ Flowable Featherless Insulation. Recently, it also won an ISPO Textrends Fall/Winter 2025/26 award. Comprised of at least 85% recycled content, 3M Thinsulate Flowable Featherless Insulation is a lightweight synthetic high-loft insulation ideal for ‘puffy’ garments.

Since launching in 2022, this insulation has been crafted with at least 80% recycled content but over the past 18 months, the insulation has evolved to integrate at least 85% post-consumer recycled material. Specially designed for versatility, it can fill a garment’s unique quilting channels by ‘flowing’ into them easily. The product also features a high wash durability and can maintain over 90% of its warmth and thickness after five launderings.

This past November, at ISPO MUNICH – the world’s largest sports trade show – 3M Thinsulate Flowable Featherless Insulation won a prestigious ISPO Textrends Fall/Winter 2025/26 award, recognising it as one of the most outstanding products in the performance textile industry. To date, the insulation is certified by the bluesign® System, OEKO-TEX®, and The Global Recycled Standard (GRS), meeting the strict sustainability standards set forth by these organisations.

The updated insulation reflects 3M’s wider sustainability initiatives, including its global headquarters is powered by 100% renewable electricity and over 50% of the company’s global electricity comes from renewable sources.

Further, 3M has pledged $1bn over 20 years to accelerate environmental goals, including achieving carbon neutrality across operations by 2050 with a 50% reduction of Scope 1 and Scope 2 market-based greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 (versus a baseline year of 2019); reducing water usage, indexed to net sales, by 25% across all facilities by 2030 (versus 2019) and reducing dependence on virgin fossil-based plastics by 125 million pounds by 2025.
